Gajim - 2018-09-17

  1. concerto Why does Gajim take proportionately longer to close the longer it's been open? 🤔
  2. Daniel lovetox, https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/wikis/development/howtogit
  3. Daniel stp, another way would be to ask if the user wants a quick restart of Gajim after updating
  4. concerto Daniel: maybe just auto-upgrade before starting. Do away with the "you have updates" and the restart annoyance.
  5. concerto (plugins, right?)
  6. Daniel concerto, yes plugins. A way to update plugins before starting would be even better. I don't know how difficult that would be implementation-wise
  7. Daniel Making the update notifications mutable (and making auto-update available) is on my list of things
  8. lovetox You all act like there are daily updates of Plugins, when in reality there is one in a month
  9. bot Philipp Hörist updated a merge request for _gajim-plugins/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/merge_requests/89 >: Compress some PNGs
  10. Daniel But still, users seem to get annoyed when there are updates and they have to click several times (where as I get excited when there are updates)
  11. bot Philipp Hörist pushed 1 commit to branch _refs/heads/master_ of _gajim-plugins_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins >: *c8bf7632* < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/commit/c8bf763265f6331c2e76d420a1671030bf186353 > Compress some PNGs
  12. bot Philipp Hörist merged a merge request for _gajim-plugins/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/merge_requests/89 >: Compress some PNGs
  13. lovetox If we do this autoupdate i would like to make it a bit cleaner then now
  14. lovetox download the plugins to a autoupdate folder, then on next start replace the old plugins before they get loaded
  15. lovetox right now the autoupdate method would deactivate the plugins, and reactivate them while Gajim is running and the user maybe is just in the progress of using it in some way
  16. lovetox this is bound to create problems
  17. Daniel Good idea!
  18. concerto > You all act like there are daily updates of Plugins, when in reality there is one in a month lmao fair enough
  19. concerto The most important thing for any Gajim user atm is chat markers.
  20. concerto The most important thing for any Gajim user at the moment is chat markers.
  21. concerto And maybe inline video playback?
  22. concerto But since those can't be added until the (IIUC?) incoming message window overhaul...
  23. SouL Guys, is there any other way to display the rooms I´m joined? I´m in dozens rooms and it´s quite hard to navigate through them. Would it be possible to display it as a vertical list, perhaps?
  24. concerto SouL: isn't a vertical list already how it's displayed?
  25. concerto SouL: isn't a vertical list how it's currently displayed?
  26. concerto I had suggested the ability to create groups for MUCs.
  27. SouL concerto, no, it is a series of horizontal tabs, like a regular web browser, for example
  28. SouL I'm talking about the ones I'm currently joined
  29. SouL Not my bookmarks or anything
  30. SouL Ah, you mean that I have to use the ´join´list
  31. concerto oh
  32. concerto yeah, vertical tabs would be nice
  33. concerto maybe nuke the tab bar entirely, make the contacts list single-click-to-open?
  34. concerto That actually simplifies the interface a fair bit o_O
  35. concerto also makes opening chats with new messages easier
  36. concerto also makes opening chats with new messages easier (when they don't have a tab open)
  37. concerto also makes opening chats with new messages easier (when they don't have a tab open, in the current UI)
  38. SouL And also, I can´t check who mentioned me, where
  39. SouL without checking every single room
  40. concerto Yeah, the contacts list just shows an envelope when there's a message...should show something different when mentioned.
  41. concerto Merge tab bar into contacts list + groupable MUCs + move current tab bar highlight indicator into the contacts list = \o/
  42. asterix Just put the tabs on the left instead of top then look in ace for tab_position
  43. SouL asterix, after that, I have to restart Gajim, right?
  44. lovetox yes
  45. SouL cool, let me test!
  46. concerto that's a nice workaround
  47. concerto lovetox, asterix: > Merge tab bar into contacts list + groupable MUCs + move current tab bar highlight indicator into the contacts list = \o/ but what do you think of that?
  48. bot nico modified an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9051 >: #9051: < new chatwindow/roster item mixup >
  49. nico I updated the issue as the bug still resides.
  50. lovetox nico i can imagine what the problem is here
  51. nico I guess the wrong "to" argument is used the one from the carbon and not the inner one
  52. lovetox yes
  53. lovetox but there are other questions after that
  54. lovetox i guess you want to see the contact in the roster
  55. lovetox but you dont want a notification for the message
  56. lovetox so actually just the contact should be added to the roster and nothing more
  57. nico essentially I only want the opened window to not be called my jids nick. I was not sure how it is handled when the chat window is not popping up
  58. lovetox A carbon of yourself sending a message to someone, should actually trigger nothing
  59. lovetox you already know that you sent the message, you dont need to be reminded with a popup or notification
  60. lovetox but the contact should be added to the roster, otherwise you can access the history
  61. lovetox *cant
  62. meaz In my roster I have a user in a section named "observers". What does that mean?
  63. SouL asterix, lovetox, the vertical tab does not fix my issue. I don´t have a scrollbar at least, so I have to go room by room to check who mentioned me, for example
  64. nico lovetox, I have my gajim configured to open a new window. By just writing a message to a random jid I can reproduce this issue every time.
  65. Daniel SouL, concerto, have a look at the messagewindow branch, it is essentially what concero has written up https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/310
  66. concerto \o/
  67. asterix meaz: you allowed him to see your status, but he doesn't
  68. Daniel Won't be in 1.1 final though
  69. meaz thanks asterix
  70. Daniel Is there a second beta of 1.1 planned?
  71. lovetox yes

  76. andrey.g SouL, how do you like this: https://prnt.sc/kvhfgg ?
  77. andrey.g I'm wondering, would such tiny tabs also possible with new messagewindow...
  78. andrey.g I'm wondering, would such tiny tabs be also possible with new messagewindow...
  79. andrey.g picpaste.com is down since more than 2 months (I've reported it here), would you like to replace it in the welcome message with another recommended service?
  80. lovetox_ yeah like what?
  81. mdosch Shouldn't http upload suffice?
  82. andrey.g I hoped someone knows good privacy-(GDPR)-friendly image upload service.
  83. andrey.g mdosch, still not every server supports HTTP upload. Perhaps due to privacy issues (no file storage, no cry).
  84. mimi89999 Any news on when the messagewindow branch will be merged?
  85. concerto mimi89999: Daniel said above that it "won't be in 1.1 final"
  86. mimi89999 😞
  87. concerto ._.
  88. Daniel 1.1 is in beta = no new features for 1.1
  89. Daniel mimi89999, checkout that branch and test it ;)
  90. concerto Daniel: !!!
  91. concerto gets on it
  92. SouL andrey.g: yes, the only thing missing here would be able to scroll through the rooms without clicking the arrows on top and bottom. Like, for instance, scrollwheel and you skim through all until you find the one you want.

  94. andrey.g SouL, I'm also missing this very useful feature. Unforunately it has been removed in GTK3: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=630226. Instead it could be implemented in every program you need it over and over again.
  95. Daniel lovetox, can you confirm that this is a gtk decision? So scrolling via mouse wheel was removed? https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/8632
  96. lovetox no, its probably doable somehow
  97. lovetox i have to check it
