  9. miloss Hi All, I was finally upgraded, but my distro version is 1.0.1 .. Is it this version considered OK, or it's a very bad idea?
  10. miloss So far the experience is, how to say it, rather "backward incompatible"
  11. asterix miloss: why is it a bad idea?
  12. asterix It's not the last one, but better than 0.16 branch
  13. jsy01 hi
  14. marmistrz I don't know if it's reported, just sending an error I have encounterd while adding a first account on a fresh system
  15. marmistrz
  16. lovetox should be fixed in 1.1.0
  17. pep. Oh is 1.1.0 out now
  18. pep. Ah beta, cool :)
  19. Daniel pep., I liked reading your article about the xmpp sprint! Message attaching is a feature I missed quite often..
  20. pep. Thanks :)
  21. pep. I wasn't the one to work on that, and it's quite an early state still, but at least something has started
  22. pep. I'm not entirely fond of it myself tbh but people seem used to it (via Slack or else)
  23. marmistrz and gajim seems so laggy right now
  24. marmistrz I mean that I had something like 10 seconds delay between the enter and the message appearing
  25. marmistrz and now, another launch, it's been using 100% cpu for something like 4 minutes. 20 contacts, 11 mucs
  26. marmistrz and I'm getting the motd every 20 seconds, unavle to send anything
  27. Daniel marmistrz, open the xml console and look what's happening there
  28. Daniel If there's nothing, check for your spell-checker, as it uses too much cpu currently
  29. Daniel pep., it's a good start I think. And I really hope it continues!
  30. marmistrz
  31. Link Mauve marmistrz, you are in the process of joining this MUC.
  32. marmistrz Link Mauve: but joining the MUC should be <10 seconds.
  33. marmistrz it looks like a performance problem, that it takes really long to join big MUCs
  34. Link Mauve marmistrz, not when there are thousands of participants.
  35. marmistrz it's like 1-2 presence messages per second
  36. marmistrz on Conversations joining the same MUC takes about 5 seconds.
  37. Link Mauve Isn’t there like 1500 participants in this room?
  38. Link Mauve That’d be 300 presences handled per second, if your connection is extremely fast and your phone powerful, this might do.
  39. marmistrz There's a lot. But Conversations joins it really quickly. That's on xiaomi redmi 3s.
  40. Link Mauve As for Gajim, try running it in cProfile maybe to see where it’s spending its time?
  41. marmistrz I'll check what's the timing on dino too. Maybe it's just python :)))
  42. marmistrz And definitely the network stuff should be in a different thread than the UI stuff, the UI becomes unusable
  43. Link Mauve marmistrz, two presences handled per second sounds way slower than anything Python could cause.
  44. Link Mauve marmistrz, threading in Python is hard to get right.
  45. marmistrz Dino joins the MUC in about 6 seconds too
  46. marmistrz it does use a lot of CPU afterwards but is at least usable after those 6 seconds
  47. marmistrz and it's actually much more than 2 presences per second, just the interval of logging is two seconds
  48. bot Nico Cesar created an issue in _gajim_ < >: #9327: < weird unicode characters create problems >
  49. miloss asterix, I just asked how bad my distro is for choosing that one
  50. mdosch miloss: which distro?
  51. miloss because I find the new UI's discoverability to be very poor
  52. miloss 1.0.1 is shipped in ubuntu bionic
  53. miloss both groups of users and even whole jabber account lack any visual separation when offline
  54. miloss and the Menu->Gajim->Accounts dialogue - it's empty and when you find the settings for an account (hint: it's not in Menu->Accounts) - it's almost empty again
  55. miloss but the biggest problem gnome keyring integration, causing garbage to be remembered as new password
  56. miloss Fortunately, old descriptive keyring entries "XMPP account" "xmpp://" were not destroyed, only the new, poorly named, entries "Password for '' on 'gajim'" were set to "gnomekeyring:"
  57. miloss but that's at least halfway a distro's fault for skipping so many versions?
  58. miloss I'll be back
  59. bot Philipp Hörist closed an issue in _gajim_ < >: #9327: < weird unicode characters create problems >
  60. lovetox miloss the Accoutns dialog is empty?
  61. lovetox hearing this the first time, and this version is realeased a long time
  62. lovetox can you provide a screenshot?
  63. lovetox i also dont understand what you mean with visual separation for offline users, every user has a icon, its green if someone is online and black if someone is offline
  64. lovetox i find this to be very visually separated, besides that this is the same in whatever gajim version you used before

  66. bot Daniel Brötzmann modified an issue in _gajim-plugins_ < >: #342: < Error when sending OMEMO message >
  67. Daniel asterix, would you grant me permission to the website project? So that I can label stuff, assign people, same role as in the other projects?
  68. Askesis Hellow
  69. Askesis -w
  70. asterix Daniel: of course ! Tomorow. Time to sleep now
