Gajim - 2018-06-20

  1. bluemoon is otr not in the flatpak version? 1.02?
  2. andrey.g bluemoon, look at ChangeLog: Gajim 1.0.0 (17.03.2018) - OTR Plugin was not ported, use OMEMO
  3. bluemoon the changelog does not say why
  4. andrey.g I guess because of missing developer man power. And additionally missing offline message transfer support and missing multi device.
  5. andrey.g The replacement suggestion is BTW nice thing. In GTK manuals you can often see a deprecation without any such suggestion let alone any explanation.
  6. concerto o/
  7. concerto Two contacts are in my roster as well as in a public, non-anonymous MUC. AFAIK they both use only Conversations. When I use Conversations, I see their avatars in private chat as well as in the MUC. When I use Gajim, I see their avatars only in private chat.
  8. concerto gajim-default-nightly v20180620-1
  9. lovetox with private chat you mean muc pm?
  10. concerto lovetox: no, 1:1 chat
  11. lovetox seems normal too me, conversations doesnt support sharing avatars via muc
  12. lovetox it depends on the server to do that for the contact
  13. lovetox so the contacts would have to install some pubsub/vcard avatar conversion mod on the server
  14. lovetox conversations is smart and probably shows avatars also in mucs that it knows already from its roster
  15. lovetox this only works in non-anonymous mucs
  16. concerto I see, thanks
  17. mrDoctorWho Daniel, lovetox do I need to run gajim with some kind of debug option?
  18. mrDoctorWho I'm also running gajim in an virtualenv
  19. mrDoctorWho https://conference.gajim.org:5281/pastebin/e31626c4-e64f-4105-bc29-d2f8005f6896
  20. mrDoctorWho damn I love python tracebacks, they're much easier to read than java ones
  21. lovetox mrDoctorWho delete your plugin_installer plugin
  22. lovetox and redownload it from here
  23. lovetox https://ftp.gajim.org/plugins_1/
  24. mrDoctorWho thanks, will do

  29. zuglufttier Can I trust a device that is offline somehow? I have one gajim runing at home and the other at work. They are never online at the same time.

  35. qhubekela hi
  36. qhubekela how can i troubleshoot gajim? running with `-v` doesn't help me in my case
  37. qhubekela basically, gajim segfaults on opening. i have no idea how to start troubleshooting
  38. qhubekela i am using version 1.0.3
  39. bot Sophie Herold updated a merge request for _gajim/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/266 >: WIP: Give dialogs more consistent look
  40. Daniel qhubekela, you can try debugging with gdb. What does the segfault say and which OS do you use?
  41. qhubekela here is a paste from running with -v
  42. qhubekela http://paste.debian.net/1030069/
  43. qhubekela i'm using debian sid
  44. qhubekela what confuses me is .. .why fail at different points :-/
  45. qhubekela also, looks like same problem as reported in issue #9129
  46. qhubekela https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9129
  47. qhubekela i'm not sure how to run gajim with gdb
  48. qhubekela i will try a few things, and see if i can update that issue ticket
  49. lovetox qhubekela, seems to be a problem with your Farstream lib
  50. lovetox try to deinstall it or update it
  51. lovetox ta, zuglufttier : yes just write the contact a encrypted message
  52. lovetox this triggers getting the fingerprints
  53. qhubekela i have reinstalled gir1.2-farstream-0.2. debian sid has version 0.2.8
  54. qhubekela ok, now i figured out how to run gajim with gdb, and can get a backtrace for example. but i'm not a dev, so i don't know what to do from here, e.g. how to save the backtrace as a file
  55. lovetox just post it here
  56. lovetox no need to save it as a file
  57. qhubekela copy & paste?
  58. lovetox_ yes
  59. lovetox_ or paste it to some paste site
  60. lovetox_ paste.gajim.org
  61. lovetox_ for example
  62. qhubekela i wonder how many lines this thing is, let me try
  63. qhubekela here is a paste
  64. qhubekela mmm
  65. qhubekela i don't know if that went through successfully ... my client shows, Received error packet [policy-violation] from <gajim@conference.gajim.org>
  66. qhubekela [18:07:54] Error message from server: The room is currently overactive, please try again later
  67. qhubekela Received error packet [policy-violation] from <gajim@conference.gajim.org>
  68. qhubekela uh oh. sorry now
  69. qhubekela https://paste.gajim.org/view/77911fe7
  70. zuglufttier lovetox, that other device is my own one! So, basically, I am missing one of my devices in the "my devices" tab of the omemo plugin.
  71. qhubekela i might not be able to remain online for long, so maybe i should update issue 9129 with this, or maybe even create a new issue :-/
  72. zuglufttier lovetox, forget about what I said :D The devices are there but still, I am missing some messages from mam, it seems.
  73. lovetox qhubekela, its nothing gajim can fix it is a segfault of the farstream dep
  74. lovetox try deinstalling it and run gajim
  75. lovetox to see if it is really farstream
  76. qhubekela ok. that is unfortunate. let me test
  77. qhubekela without farstream, it doesn't segfault. thanks.
  78. qhubekela however, i get a different error now ... no UI/window appears, instead i get: Failed to register: Timeout was reached
  79. qhubekela ah, scratch that, i still had a gajim instance running in gdb. looks to be working fine now. thanks lovetox :)
  80. meaz how can I get rid of the "username left/joined" in gajim?
  81. qhubekela i updated issue #9129 with steps for running gajim under gdb. hope it will help the op
  82. lovetox_ meaz, in advanced config editor "print_status_*"
  83. lovetox_ or something similar, use the search
  84. meaz thanks lovetox
  85. meaz also, I seem to have a problem only with gajim: when I read messages with gajim, then, when I open a muc on another client, I don't see the messages I read with gajim, as if mod_carbon wasn't activated. But it is, and if I read messages in Conversation first, I do see them in gajim later...
  86. lovetox muc has nothing to do with carbons
  87. lovetox just open the history window
  88. lovetox everything should be there
  89. meaz thanks lovetox
  90. meaz is there a prosody muc for question about prosody modules config on a server?
  91. lovetox yes
  92. lovetox xmpp:prosody@conference.prosody.im?join
  93. meaz also, I noticed a problem with gajim on debian 9. If I try to join a room and check the bookmark option, I get a failure message and can't join. If I do the same thing with no bookmark, there is no problem
  94. meaz thanks for the link
  95. lovetox what is the failure message

  98. lovetox hm go into the bookmark window, and check the titles of the bookmarks
  99. lovetox see if anyone is empty
  100. lovetox maybe its enough just to click ok and save the bookmarks to fix it
  101. lovetox but yeah this is a bug
  102. meaz yeah I can set the rooms as bookmarks after.

  106. opal also has 1.0.x removed message receipt checkmarks or am i just stupid
