  5. jo-so Is it known, that gajim doesn't sync OMEMO encrypted messages with other devices like the mobile phone, while Conversion 2.0 can do so?

  9. Daniel that was fast!
  10. Asterix That was easy to check 😉

  17. lovetox jo-so, this should work fine
  18. lovetox but did you try it with not encrypted messages?
  19. lovetox other wise you can always show me a log with -l gajim.plugin_system.omemo=DEBUG
  20. jo-so lovetox: Yes, it works with unencrypted messages.
  21. lovetox did you try it with another contact?
  22. jo-so I've done now. Two different contacts, without encryption = sync, with encryption = no sync.
  23. lovetox im not sure what you mean by sync
  24. lovetox do you have a second device
  25. lovetox that is online at the same time and you dont receive the messges?
  26. lovetox or is it offline and when you come online you dont get the messages?
  27. lovetox so-jo
  28. lovetox also its not clear which device doesnt get the messages
  29. lovetox gajim or conversations?
  30. lovetox i mean i see in the log Skipped own Device because Trust is: 2
  31. lovetox so it seems you have a untrusted device
  32. jo-so lovetox: Gajim didn't send outgoing messages to Conversations. But your last message was a good hint. I've approved the key of Conversations and now it works.
  33. jo-so Is it possible to add an hint when sending a message, with untrusted keys of own devices? IIRC this happens for untrusted keys of recipients.
  34. jo-so lovetox: Thanks for helping me and some friends (having the same problem).

  39. Daniel lovetox, a hint for missing trust in own devices (OMEMO) would be nice, I think
  40. bot Philipp Hörist closed an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9061 >: #9061: < No sound from Gajim when using Flatpak >
  41. lovetox we already do notify the user about it
  42. lovetox when a new fingerprint is available
  43. lovetox the window pops up
  44. lovetox people just dont bother to click on the second page "own fingerprint"
  45. lovetox we could show it all in one tab except 2 so its more obvious with one look
  46. Daniel one list, own fingerprints on the top, rest below?
  47. bot Daniel proposed a new merge request for _gajim-plugins/master_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/merge_requests/79 >: Add Gpg4win to warning, fix icon

  50. jjrh Is there something I need to install or do to get spellchecking (the red underline and right click to fix spelling) working in gajim1.0.1?
  51. jjrh Ubuntu upgraded me from 0.16 to 1.0.1 on my work machine and it seems this is missing now?
  52. jjrh I checked in advanced - use speller is enabled
  53. lovetox you need gir1.2-gspell-1
  54. marmistrz ChatSecure iOS has gotten an unofficial MUC. chatsecure@conference.magicbroccoli.de
  55. jjrh is there some setting I have to toggle to get a MUC's history to restore? I see in the history window all of gajim's history, but when I just restarted my client and entered the room I don't get any history.
  56. jjrh History for a contact however is showing.
  57. mimi89999 lovetox: Will you update the messagewindow branch?
  58. lovetox yes i can do this today
  59. lovetox no jjrh currently not available
  60. jjrh Ah okay - so it's a known issue not something I have configured incorrectly.
  61. Maranda lovetox, I found a bug.
  62. Maranda lovetox, Gajim is breaking https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0045.html#createroom
  63. lovetox yeah please make a issue
  64. Maranda isn't sure he remembers the account on Gajim's gitland :O
  65. Maranda isn't sure he remembers the account on Gajim's gitlab :O
  66. lovetox im sure you have a github acc :)
  67. Maranda lovetox, but I think I registered previously
  68. Maranda lemme see

  71. jjrh https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9060 looking at this issue - while i'm not sure how one would do this the ideal solution to me would be to copy what stuff like xchat does - have the username and date/time be a fixed width https://i.imgur.com/skDDobG.png
  72. jjrh Stuff like chat bubbles/blocks would make displaying stuff like inline images much prettier
  73. Daniel jirh did you have a look at how Dino does display messages? Looks pretty neat to my eye :)
  74. mimi89999 lovetox: Thanks in advance
  75. jjrh Daniel, not in any detail - but it's a good example to copy
  76. jjrh My main thing with those chat bubble things is I find you waste a lot of vertical space
  77. nathan jjrh, chat bubbles can have small borders, so wasting space is not necessarily a problem
  78. jjrh Well it's more that the name comes above the text instead of to the left
  79. jjrh Conversations does it to the side which is nice
  80. jjrh but I mean once the work done to implement this is complete changing the look is fairly easy.
  81. Maranda lovetox, well I had to add *requests for instant rooms* as well apparently :O
  82. Daniel 'wasting' vertical space often improves readability. i bet chat appearance could be confogurable as well ;)
  83. Maranda well GC1.0 breaks everything that needs muc tracking, effectively.
  84. Maranda yay?
  85. jjrh The way conversations does it on the side seems to work well. I think the main thing for readability is really just having enough of a space between two different users messages. Coloring the background for each user helps too but is hard to do right.
  86. jjrh What I really dislike with conversations is if you don't have a avatar they just put the first letter in your icon - which okay is fine except when there are tons of people with the same first letter talking. they do put the user name at the end of the message but it still makes following a discussion difficult.
  87. jjrh UI stuff is frustrating in so many ways.
  88. Daniel I thought about that too. Default avatars with the first letter are useless in MUCs. Maybe things like gravatar help there (to keep ui consistent between user with and without avatars). I remember one user mentioned a service for random cat avatars or funny-drawn monster avatars. This would make a great plugin!
  89. lovetox there is a trade off the way i see it with my current knowledge of GTK
  90. benrob0329 Gravitars?
  91. lovetox either you have a Textview like now, where you can select everything with mouse easily
  92. lovetox or you have something different, where you can basically do all kind of layouts, but you never can select all text that you see
  93. lovetox see Dino, you can select a single message
  94. lovetox not more
  95. jjrh Is dino using a textview and instead of inserting text inserting layout stuff/widgets in or did they do something totally different?
  96. lovetox they dont use a textview
  97. lovetox otherwise you could select all text
  98. lovetox which you can not
  99. lovetox they use a normal Grid where they can put all kind of widgets
  100. lovetox and they use a textview per message
  101. lovetox so every message own textview
  102. lovetox thats why you can not select over multiple messages
  103. lovetox so im not saying what Gajim currently have is the best you can do with a textview
  104. lovetox far from it
  105. benrob0329 can't you insert widgets into a textview?
  106. jjrh ah. I'm pretty sure in a text view you can insert any widget you want i'm wondering if one can abuse that to get copy and paste from multiple lines
  107. lovetox you can insert widgets
  108. lovetox we also do this
  109. jjrh Yes
  110. lovetox but its harder, you dont have that much layout power
  111. lovetox you insert the widget into a line of text
  112. jjrh yeah - that is a legitimate issue.
  113. lovetox so you can basically only do what you can do with text
  114. lovetox justify left, right center
  115. benrob0329 thats workable
  116. lovetox and its way more complicated
  117. lovetox to do complicated layouts
  118. lovetox for example you can not have a picture that spans in heigt two lines
  119. lovetox and beside it 2 lines of text
  120. lovetox because a picture can always only be in one line
  121. benrob0329 you could place pictures in thier own line below the message
  122. benrob0329 along with URL previews
  123. lovetox benrob0329, im not looking for ideas here
  124. lovetox im telling you the differences of approaches there are
  125. lovetox and what the tradeoffs are
  126. lovetox so i looked into doing layout with something different then a textview
  127. lovetox but that i cant select all text
  128. lovetox is a to big tradeoff for a desktop client in my opinion
  129. lovetox so textview it is, im working currently on making it nicer
  130. jjrh The tradeoff might be to have a mode to switch to a copy/paste friendly screen - weechat for instance has a command to make the chat full screen to make copy and pasting urls easier.
  131. benrob0329 I suppose you could use an HTML view, but thats probably a bit nasty (and heavy)
  132. jjrh I thought about it when I was playing with embedding webkit
  133. jjrh and there is a javascript <-> python interface
  134. jjrh but nothing about that sounds like a good idea
  135. jjrh I wonder if you can write something to let one do the copy/paste over multiple widgets
  136. lovetox probably, but lets say it wouldnt be pretty and a big hack
  137. lovetox like catching mouse coordinates and button press and calculate where the mouse moves and select text accordingly in multiple widgets
  138. lovetox sounds nothing i would want to get into ^^
  139. jjrh yeahhhhh
  140. lovetox i would rather just tell people they dont really need this and invest time into other features :)
  141. jjrh To be honest I can't remember the last time I copy'd multiple lines of text from multiple people though.
  142. jjrh usually i'm only copying multiple lines because it was typed in two messages but sequentially - the chat bubbles would append the text to the previous message if no one has said anything since.
  143. lovetox yeah i personally think i could live fine with not selecting all text
  144. lovetox but i know many other would bitch about it ^^
  145. lovetox and you can do much better with a textview then we have now, its just a bit harder
  146. Kromonos Does someone know, how I could send slash commands to the spectrum irc bridge out of gajim? So, that I can use the /oper command. I tried //oper, but that sends the complete line, as if the second / was escaped at irc too.
  147. jjrh I don't see a reason why both what we have now and something new and fancy couldn't coexist and users who don't want anything changed could continue normally.
  148. lovetox no sorry Kromonos
  149. Kromonos hmm ... too bad, but thanks :)
  150. lovetox jjrh because its a lot of code to maintain, and to maintain 2 different things is too much work
  151. lovetox and its not that we dont change it because we desperatly wnat what we have now
  152. lovetox its just many things are working right now, and to redo the whole thing without losing half of the stuff it can do now, takes a lot of time
  153. jjrh That's partly why I would say having both would be kinda nice. I agree that maintaining both would be tricky.
  154. jjrh And really there are a ton of smaller low hanging fruit type stuff that can be done now.
  155. jjrh Don't get me wrong I'm not pushing either way more just thinking about how it might be done.
  156. lovetox mimi89999, did the update on the messagewindow branch
  157. lovetox hope nothing is now broken
  158. lovetox have to go to bed night
