Gajim - 2018-04-10

  1. mrDoctorWho hi there
  2. mrDoctorWho My gajim doesn't play sounds. That's what it prints in the console: pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused Connection failure: Connection refused
  3. mrDoctorWho what could have happened to the gajim -> pulseaudio connection, considering all other sounds (and software, including pavucontrol) work fine?

  9. lovetox MrDoctorWho, any options to choose in the perference audio menu?
  10. mrDoctorWho lovetox, what menu?
  11. lovetox preference audio
  12. lovetox Gajim - Preferences -> Audio
  13. mrDoctorWho no options to choose
  14. lovetox like nothing?
  15. lovetox there should be at least something about pulseaudio
  16. lovetox otherwise you maybe miss the gstreamer dependencys, which are maybe necessary to use pulseaudi
  17. mrDoctorWho lovetox‎, sorry, missed your message. Yes, absolutely nothing. I'm running flatpak, what might be missing?
  18. lovetox Flatpak, yeah probably the gstreamer dependency

  61. zuglufttier Should gajim-remote be working?
  62. zuglufttier In 1.0.1?
  63. lovetox depends what you want to do with it
  64. lovetox but yes should work
  65. lovetox you have to activate it in ACE
  66. lovetox what do you want to do with it?
  67. zuglufttier Nothing in special, just wanted to check the features. I was just thinking of some kind of proxy for a headless xmpp client...
  68. zuglufttier Seperate front- and backend.
  69. zuglufttier So you could have a secure backend with all the needed stuff for messaging, identities in OMEMO and so on and a frontend that only has to handle user input and display messages from the backend.
  70. lovetox yeah but that is not gajim remote
  71. lovetox gajim remote lets you issues commands via commandline to gajim
  72. lovetox why would you invent a gui that issues commands via gajim remote to the GUI client Gajim
  73. lovetox you could just use gajim
  74. zuglufttier I know :) And gajim is doing just fine. I just want to have a look ;)
  75. zuglufttier I wouldn't add another gui to gajim, that would a bit insane.
  76. zuglufttier I wouldn't add another gui to gajim, that would be a bit insane.
  77. lovetox yeah but "and a frontend that only has to handle user input and display messages from the backend."
  78. lovetox thats exactly what the GUI part in Gajim does
  79. zuglufttier But could you seperate it completely?
  80. zuglufttier Like seperate programs?
  81. zuglufttier gajim-core and gajim-gui? I know there's a demand for at least a usable command line client ;)
  82. zuglufttier With OMEMO etc.
  83. zuglufttier Or gajim-qt?
  84. lovetox no, that would mean to write a new client
  85. lovetox and there are enough cmd line clients
  86. lovetox what you want is just use a xmpp lib
  87. lovetox it does everything you want, and notifies you about messages and other events that you can display then 🙂
  88. zuglufttier But you already implemented omemo, http upload and all the nice stuff.
  89. lovetox but not in a xmpp lib
  90. lovetox we implemented them in Gajim
  91. lovetox you cant separate them
  92. lovetox there are also libs that implement all these things
  93. lovetox for example smacks
  94. lovetox has omemo support
  95. zuglufttier OK, thanks a lot!
  96. CatMan lovetox‎, Wiktor‎, why Gajim can't blink mail icon till i open tab with new message? if i have 10-15 opened tabs - it's unreal to find in what tab i get new message.
  97. lovetox in the roster?
  98. CatMan yes
  99. CatMan it blinking if tab was not opened
  100. lovetox did you try setting it to show in roster in preferences -> notification
  101. CatMan lovetox‎, it will only in roster? without popup?
  102. lovetox why do you want it ONLY in roster
  103. lovetox what does it matter if its also in the tab
  104. lovetox just try it
  105. CatMan lovetox‎, no.. see.. if i have 203 tabs - it's ok. i will see at head of tab marker. but if i have 10-15 tabs - i can't see all.
  106. CatMan i mean 2-3 tabs. not 203 =)
  107. lovetox you want to see it in the roster, and there is a option to show it in the roster
  108. lovetox so just try it
  109. lovetox also you can set the tabs to show on the left
  110. lovetox instead of the top
  111. lovetox so you can fit many more tabs, and see better
  112. lovetox in advanced config editor "tabs_position"
  113. nathan Oh wow, that should definitely be taken out of ACE
  114. zuglufttier Definitely, and can the width of the tab column be adjusted somehow?
  115. lovetox via css
  116. lovetox in gajim.css
  117. lovetox .notebook-tab-label {min-width: 80px}
  118. lovetox but be aware this will be overwritten on each update of gajim
  119. zuglufttier Nice! Is there an easy way to find out the names of the css classes and ids?
  120. Asterix zuglufttier: gui and core are already more or less separated. If you want to write qt / curses client, "just" rewrite files in src folder and keep the one in common folder.
  121. zuglufttier Thanks for the clarification.
  122. zuglufttier The "just" part is a problem ;)
  123. bot Daniel modified an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9060 >: #9060: < Meta: Message/conversation appearance >
  124. lovetox yeah zuglufttier in gajim.css is everything we use
  125. zuglufttier Can I force the reload of gajim.css?
  126. lovetox no
  127. lovetox if you are on Linux, you can also use the Gtk inspector
  128. lovetox to adjust css settings live
  129. lovetox https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GTK+/Inspector
  130. Daniel nice!
  131. zuglufttier That's a really nice program. Although it breaks some stuff for me...
  132. CatMan lovetox‎, if tab opened and not active - it show not mail icon. just play sound
  133. Daniel Asterix, flatpak logo in the downloads section of gajim.org is missing somehow. works with devel.gajim.org though
  134. lovetox yeah CatMan doesnt work it seems
  135. lovetox did you try the tip with the tab position?
  136. Asterix Daniel: oups forgot to copy it. Thanks
  137. CatMan lovetox‎, what do you mean?
  138. lovetox in the advanced config editor you can set "tab_position" = left
  139. lovetox then you can fit a lot more tabs
  140. lovetox and easier see notifitcations
  141. CatMan lovetox‎, yes, it solution... but maybe it will fixed at Gajim?
  142. lovetox yeah start with creating a issue about it
  143. CatMan ok, thanks
  144. bot Влад и мир created an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/9064 >: #9064: < Bad notification >

  147. Daniel lovetox, does Gajim provide an information dialog with checkbuttons ? I only see InformationDialog (no checkbutton) and ConfirmationDialogCheck (with checkbutton) but ConfirmationDialogCheck also has a Cancel button.. or is there a way to hide the Cancel button? I'm asking for Plugin Auto Update. I want to show an info dialog with a checkbutton, so after updating successfully, the dialog is shown with the possibility to uncheck something like "show this message after updating successfully"
  148. Asterix Daniel: if not, that's not hard to do. I can add that if you want
  149. Daniel Asterix, that would be nice. I think this could be used in many places for stuff like "don't show this message again"
  150. Daniel adding this would be a nice addition. but what if people update the plugin with a Gajim version older than that code commit?
  151. Asterix We already have this don't show again in several places, but maybe with a yes/no question
  152. Asterix Daniel: you can check Gajim version and don't show the checkbox when not possible
  153. Asterix The checkbox must be in plugin config too anyway
  154. Asterix Else there is no way to re-enable dialogs.
  155. Asterix For Gajim dialogs they can be re-enabled in ace
  156. Daniel yes, a plugin setting for this is planned
  157. Daniel is there a way to hide one button? so I can use ConfirmationDialogCheck?
  158. Daniel use case is: "Plugin x was updated successfully" > "Ok" (with checkbutton for "Don't show this again")
  159. Daniel "Cancel" would make no sense there
  160. lovetox yes Daniel
  161. lovetox https://lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/#Gtk-3.0/classes/Dialog.html#Gtk.Dialog
  162. lovetox get_action_area
  163. lovetox or even better
  164. lovetox get_response_for_widget
  165. lovetox ah the other one i mean
  166. lovetox get_widget_for_response
  167. lovetox as get_action_area is deprecated
  168. Daniel ah that sounds good! :)
  169. Daniel so I would appreciate adding InfoDialogCheck, but for now (compatibility) use ConfirmationDialogCheck (and hide one button)
  170. lovetox why, hiding a button on a dialog is a fine approach in my book
  171. lovetox for now, if we need this in 10 other places then a dialog would make sense
  172. Daniel ok, the term "Confirmation" may apply as we confirm that we saw this dialog
  173. lovetox you can inherit from ConfirmationDialogCheck
  174. lovetox and call it InfoDialogCheck
  175. zak *sigh* Emoticons now don't work even for me using the Gajim package :(
  176. zak When selecting font-emoticons, I see some icons in b/w and many unicode-boxes only in the selection dialog and in the chat window.
  177. zak When selecting noto-emoticons, I see the correct colored icons in the selection dialog but the same icons in the chat window.
  178. lovetox hm you see the same icons in the selection box and the chatwindow
  179. lovetox thats whats intended
  180. zak with "the same icons in the chat window" I mean the b/w icons resp. the unicode-boxes
  181. zak in other words: in the chat window I always see only the b/w icons or a unicode-box
  182. zak regardless of font-/noto-emoticons
  183. lovetox which os do you have?
  184. zak Debian stretch
  185. lovetox hm in the gajim debian package is a recommended dependency on noto font
  186. lovetox install it
  187. lovetox then switch to font-emoticons
  188. lovetox if it doesnt work its the font that is not correctly configured
  189. lovetox not gajim
