Gajim - 2018-04-06

  1. andrey.g UsL, zak‎ in your example the anchor must be # (not ?) otherwise the data will be sent to the server which is not what you want.
  2. UsL yeah thanks, I looked again and noticed it was an #. And with the additional information added I am all set again. I guess the guy confusing me before was maybe unsure himself and was probing.. : )
  3. UsL we had arguments about e2ee
  4. heckyel Hi
  5. heckyel update language for spanish in https://translate.gajim.org/es/
  6. Daniel Thanks heckyel !

  28. zak Oh yes... I mixed up ? and #. andrey.g is right of course.
  29. Holger The roster view shows the count of online/all members for each roster group next to the group name. For me, this count is correct for some groups, but for others, the number of online members is zero, despite some being online.
  30. Holger Ah, after enabling "[x] show offline contacts" the count is fixed, and remains correct after disabling again.
  31. Holger Remains correct after going offline/online. Breaks again after restarting Gajim.
  32. lovetox Ah how i love the Gajim roster 😃
  33. CatMan hi all
  34. CatMan could you tell me how i can set up my notifications for many tabs to know who now send me message?
  35. CatMan if i long time not use Gajim - i will see small mail over user at roster
  36. CatMan but if i have opened many tabs and chat now - i can't understand who send me message till i manually check all tabs for new messages
  37. CatMan at Vacuum i have mail icon at roster every time on user who send me message
  38. CatMan but at Gajim.. it only when i long time not touch it or chat from mobile client
  39. CatMan 111 users and silence
  40. Wiktor CatMan: Gajim tips are silver but silence is golden
  41. Wiktor Weird I have notification icons for all messages
  42. lovetox CatMan, the tab usually shows you if there is a new message
  43. lovetox it changes color and shows the number of new messages
  44. lovetox there are some settings in advanced config editor that lets you change the behaviour
  45. lovetox also in preferences -> notify there should be a option "notify in roster"
  46. lovetox i think
  47. zak Is there a reason Gajim is missing here? https://xmpp.org/software/clients.html
  48. Maranda They didn't send a PR
  49. marmistrz gajim seems to suffer from the part and parcel of python again:
  50. marmistrz https://conference.gajim.org:5281/pastebin/dc36423f-254a-469f-9e9b-812413a02978
  51. marmistrz all HTTP Upload images are displayed just as "HTML image" text
  52. lovetox what is a html image text
  53. marmistrz lovetox: "HTML image"
  54. marmistrz nothing else
  55. marmistrz in the place where the actual image preview should be
  56. lovetox yeah thats not gajim thats writing that
  57. marmistrz probably the image preview plugim
  58. lovetox no its not
  59. lovetox this is the actual message that the other client is sending
  60. marmistrz That was sent by gajim, using the image button on the left :)
  61. Neustradamus Asterix: lovetox: Gajim is not in XMPP client list on xmpp.org, can you create a PR?
  62. lovetox marmistrz, ok, thats not httpupload
  63. lovetox please deinstall that plugin
  64. marmistrz another traceback from the omemo plugin:
  65. lovetox you dont need a plugin, you can just click the send button in gajim
  66. marmistrz https://conference.gajim.org:5281/pastebin/2875dd53-02f3-4482-97db-95924a884956
  67. lovetox what version of gajim are you using?
  68. marmistrz lovetox, deinstall http upload or image preview?
  69. marmistrz 1.0, but the other recipient was using 0.16.9 (ubuntu trusty, so 1.0 was a no-go)
  70. lovetox you dont need a httpupload plugin
  71. lovetox its integrated in gajim
  72. lovetox you just have to click the send button
  73. Neustradamus Asterix, lovetox: https://github.com/xsf/xmpp.org/blob/master/data/clients.json
  74. lovetox and to your friend with 0.16.9 tell him he should not use the "Image Plugin"
  75. marmistrz Hmmm, now I'm getting the "This contact doesn't support XHTML IM"
  76. lovetox he should install httpupload plugin
  77. marmistrz I meant the "URL image preview" here
  78. marmistrz when talking about the image plugin
  79. lovetox [20:19:56] ‎marmistrz‎: That was sent by gajim, using the image button on the left
  80. lovetox no you where not
  81. lovetox a preview plugin doesnt have buttons
  82. lovetox it previews things
  83. lovetox the only thing that is unclear to me is, do you have that image button
  84. lovetox or your contact on 0.16.9
  85. marmistrz I didn't know that image thing is from the Image plugin :D
  86. marmistrz now everything's clear :) thank you very much
  87. marmistrz URL image preview and OMEMO should be still used as plugin or are they built-in now?
  88. lovetox no you need those 2
  89. marmistrz Thanks!
  90. lovetox about that omemo error
  91. lovetox did you message yourself lately?
  92. porrier Gajim does not sync with my smartphone. mod_carbon and mod_mam are loaded on prosody server.
  93. porrier Is there a module to be loaded to achive this?
  94. Asterix zak, we are listed in the client.json file. No idea why we are not on the website
  95. zak Asterix: This is because the entry is older than a year. It needs to be renewed.
  96. Asterix ok, I won't do that every year. I don't think it's client devs to maintain the list on xmpp.org. I'm not searching advertisement. if xmpp.org website want to help ppl to find a client, that's nice.
  97. zak I understand completely.
  98. lovetox ok i do it, i have nothing else to do
  99. Asterix lol
  100. zak lovetox: Are you serious?
  101. zak I agree with you and think it's stupid.
  102. lovetox porrier, no, it would be important to find out in what case it doesnt sync
  103. lovetox first i would disable encryption
  104. porrier hmmmm
  105. porrier lovetox: I just thought that I would see the messages that arrived on my smartphone this evening on my now booted workstation with gajim.
  106. lovetox did you look in the history window?
  107. lovetox ctrl + h
  108. porrier history is empty
  109. lovetox so are you using encryption?
  110. porrier no
  111. porrier I can not navigate in the history windw
  112. lovetox open a conversation with a contact
  113. lovetox press ctrl + h
  114. lovetox there is nothing to navigate
  115. porrier I can put in a JID bit can't choose a day or search
  116. lovetox look under accounts -> advanced -> server info
  117. lovetox if mam is enabled
  118. porrier lovetox: history is empty
  119. lovetox did you change any settings when you set up gajim?
  120. porrier Also history in this room is not there since I reconnected
  121. lovetox you dont have a history if you press ctrl +h in this room?
  122. porrier No, didn't change settings. Am new to gajim.
  123. porrier Yes, no history
  124. Asterix https://dev.gajim.org/asterix/gajim/commit/b63247339bccd57153e2f17da21dc34d816c6e81 now farstream / gs things ... not my best part! if farstream experts want to help, you're welcome!
  125. Asterix porrier, MAM is enabled in accounts -> advanced -> server info
  126. lovetox great Asterix, will check out
  127. lovetox Asterix he has no history even now
  128. lovetox no history at all, even while chating
  129. lovetox porrier, check out Accounts -> your account -> General
  130. lovetox is everything ON?
  131. porrier Could it have something to do with the setting in prosody that I changed? archive_expires_after = "1w"
  132. porrier everthing ON
  133. lovetox no
  134. lovetox we log messages on your harddrive
  135. lovetox you are saying you dont even see those correct?
  136. lovetox like the live message we are writing now, are not in your history?
  137. lovetox and you are using gajim 1.0.1?
  138. porrier at the moment I don't know where to find the history. In accounts?
  139. lovetox ctrl + h
  140. porrier does not open the history window
  141. lovetox why did you tell me then before, it was empty?!
  142. porrier I saw it, and now I don't get it anymore
  143. lovetox what version of gajim are you using?
  144. lovetox and what os?
  145. porrier 0.16.7
  146. porrier openSUSE Leap 42.3
  147. lovetox maybe you should start gajim from console
  148. lovetox and see if there are some errors
  149. porrier I get the history window when I use the menu
  150. porrier it's empty, no messages from this room too
  151. lovetox then it seems its not stored in the db for some reason
  152. lovetox like i said start from console and look if there are erros
  153. porrier ok, I'll do that
  154. porrier When I choose accouts/account/edit an press ctrl+h nothing happens
  155. lovetox no
  156. lovetox ctrl + h is a shortcut in the chatwindow
  157. lovetox or there is also a button in the toolbar
  158. porrier ok, found it, works, history is empty
  159. porrier Is the history stored on the server or at the client? It must be available on the server otherwise devices can't sync
  160. lovetox both
  161. lovetox but you seem to have bigger problems
  162. lovetox if gajim doesnt even save the history on your harddrive
  163. lovetox you dont need to think about syncing
  164. porrier where does gajim save history on the harddrive?
  165. lovetox ./local/share/gajim
  166. porrier ~/.local/share/gajim> ll insgesamt 72 drwx------ 2 andreas users 4096 3. Apr 17:06 certs -rw------- 1 andreas users 57344 7. Apr 00:11 logs.db drwxr-xr-x 3 andreas users 4096 3. Apr 20:27 plugins -rw------- 1 andreas users 1024 6. Apr 23:49 rng_seed
  167. lovetox seems to be active
  168. lovetox i cant really help with gajim 0.16.7 the ui is pretty different to now
  169. lovetox i dont even know where the settings are there
  170. lovetox but maybe you accidently disabled logging
  171. lovetox mam is probably not going to work with that version also, depends on your server supporting mam:1
  172. lovetox and you cant really install gajim 1.0 because open suse 42 does only support gtk3
  173. lovetox 3.20
  174. porrier I'll try to run gajim 1.0
  175. lovetox if you dont have gtk 3.22
  176. lovetox you dont need to try
  177. lovetox its not going to work
  178. porrier ok
  179. porrier May I ask a question about Pidgim here?
  180. lovetox i would not use it, its dead for years
  181. lovetox no mam, carbons only via a plugin
  182. lovetox you could try https://swift.im
  183. porrier ok, that's why I see no history in Pidgim too. Just started it.
  184. porrier ok, got swift 4.0 downloaded
  185. bot Daniel modified an issue in _gajim_ < https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/8538 >: #8538: < Gajim with Tor leaks DNS requests >
  186. nathan openSUSE Leap 15 should be out soonish anyway
  187. lovetox why is Leap 15>Leap42.3 ?
  188. nathan https://news.opensuse.org/2015/11/04/opensuse-leap-42-1-becomes-first-hybrid-distribution/
  189. nathan "Since the move was such a shift from previous versions, a new version number and version naming strategy was adapted to reflect the change. The SLE sources come from SUSE’s soon to be released SLE 12 Service Pack 1 (SP1). The naming strategy is SLE 12 SP1 or 12.1 + 30 = openSUSE Leap 42.1. Many have asked why 42, but SUSE and openSUSE have a tradition of starting big ideas with a four and two, a reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy."
  190. nathan Actually, here's an excerpt from the mailing list, which goes a bit more in-depth: https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2017-04/msg00014.html
  191. lovetox ok nathan, thanks but dont be mad if i dont read all of that
  192. lovetox i got it, its some kind of "you have to calculate to get the new version" thingy
  193. nathan That was the intention, but it got changed again because SUSE decided to skip some versions, so then openSUSE decided to just use the same numbers as SUSE to keep it simple
