Gajim - 2017-12-30

  1. concerto What's that bug about?
  2. concerto The one in the video?
  3. Citizen Zibb can gajim receive files sent by a user on a jabber server?
  4. concerto Citizen Zibb: if you have the HTTP Upload plugin installed.
  5. concerto Wait, receive? Yeah, no plugin needed for that.
  6. Citizen Zibb yeah its kinda bugging me out
  7. baitisj Is there some sort of thing I have to do to install plugins for the dev version of gajim?
  8. baitisj https://github.com/decent-im/decent.im/wiki#making-irc-connections-persistent
  9. baitisj Dang nabit, I'm having paste problems. Sorry, wrong conversation.
  10. Asterix baitisj: just install plugin installer from master branch
  11. baitisj kk thx Asterix
  12. lovetox concerto a bug in the Gtk.TextView, you can witness it in the message input box of gajim
  13. anubis hello
  14. anubisss could someone help me to make audio/video work on Debian/Stretch ?
  15. anubisss i installed gir1.2-farstream-0.2, gir1.2-gstreamer-1.0 and gir1.2-gst-plugins-base-1.0 as requested on https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim, but the feature is still unmarked on Help > Features
  16. anubisss does it work for you ?
  17. anubisss nobody ? :(
  18. debacle anubisss‎, AFAIK, this is not yet working. I tried and failed and the developers want to make 1.0.0 stable first and later look at audio/video.
  19. SABer do we have a tutorial how to activate omemo
  20. anubisss thanks for your feedback
  21. SABer 2x conversations 3x gajim
  22. SABer not working
  23. SABer pain in the ass every time
  24. SABer mobile reboot needed sometimes?
  25. SABer no omemo icon in gajim for the new contacts
  26. SABer conversations shows error
  27. debacle SABer‎, do you mean OMEMO in a group chat (MUC)? Or just person to person?
  28. SABer nope
  29. SABer i try 1:1 first
  30. debacle The latter should "just work"™ and does so in my experience. The former is more complicated, but Elena posted on her homepage how to make it work (have to search for it, though).
  31. SABer never!!! just worked in my experience
  32. SABer pain in the ass
  33. SABer every time
  34. SABer :/
  35. lovetox are your contacts on latest conversations?
  36. SABer yap latest f droid
  37. lovetox check again it should be 1.23.3
  38. lovetox as the conversations changelog says
  39. lovetox Changelog Version 1.23.3 Fixed OMEMO device list no being announced
  40. lovetox which could be a cause
  41. lovetox also what gajim version are you using?
  42. SABer 0.16.6 from debian repository
  43. lovetox what do you mean with 2x conversations 3x gajim
  44. lovetox 5 different contacts using these clients
  45. lovetox and it works with not one of them?
  46. SABer 1 success
  47. SABer 5 different people / accounts
  48. lovetox and i guess you did restart gajim once?
  49. SABer yes tried to restart gajim
  50. lovetox you can start gajim with -l gajim.plugin_system.omemo=DEBUG
  51. lovetox to get more info about the contacts in question
  52. SABer batteries empty
  53. SABer people left my place
  54. SABer very frustrating :(
  55. SABer 30.12.2017 16:33:00 (W) gajim.plugin_system.omemo jabber.de => No devices for xxx@jabber.de
  56. lovetox means no devices are published
  57. lovetox cant do anything about that
  58. lovetox is it a conversations client?
  59. SABer yes
  60. lovetox tell them to upgrade to 1.23.3
  61. lovetox and restart the application
  62. SABer i installed v1.23.3 on this device
  63. SABer i tell em to reboot the mobiles
  64. lovetox dont need to reboot the mobile just the app
  65. lovetox or disable the account inside the app and activate it again
  66. lovetox should also be enough
  67. SABer thank you for your help lovetox
  68. debacle suggestion for antispam plugin: enable/disable per account
  69. nico Will the merge request to implement httpupload into gajim directly be merged any time soon?
  70. nico This one : https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/merge_requests/181
  71. lovetox yes sure in some days probably
  72. nico finally drag and drop images to httpupload <3
  73. debacle why do filetransfer_preference and dnd depend on integration into the core?
  74. nico i dont know but with this merge they are finally implemented
  75. lovetox it does not strictly depend on it
  76. lovetox but also i dont want to add plugin api for every possible thing a plugin wants to do
  77. lovetox and why should a widely accepted XEP not be in the core of Gajim?
  78. debacle sure
  79. mimi89999 Gajim is again at 1G RAM.
  80. mimi89999 It would be nice to fix that memory leak...
  81. SABer @lovetox a reboot of all devices solved my problem :)
  82. SABer thx
  83. SABer a detailed tutorial would be great
  84. SABer would save you a lot of trouble
  85. SABer explaining the same stuff over and over again
  86. SABer maybe autologin logout when using omemo the first time
  87. SABer autotrust on all clients
  88. SABer on / off button or something like that would be great too
  89. SABer everything is still very frustrating ATM
  90. SABer it reeeally must get easier
  91. SABer very important IMO
  92. SABer maybe autorestart all clients ...
  93. SABer n8
  94. SABer and big THX for everything
  95. lovetox SABer, most of these problems are solved in Gajim 1.0.0
  96. lovetox and the conversations bug is unfortunate, but its fixed now
  97. concerto Gajim has been running since "12/23/17" (...please use the ISO time format in the logs? :\ ) and memory usage is "85264". ~10 private chats, 3 public MUCs, 4 private MUCs.
  98. lovetox what are you talking about concerto?
  99. lovetox where does this message come from?
  100. justin Is it correct that I cannot build Gajim at the moment (Segmentation Fault)?
  101. lovetox you get a seg fault while building gajim?
  102. justin Yes
  103. lovetox is there some kind of traceback or any info
  104. justin Yes: Running setup.py install for gajim ... error Complete output from command /usr/bin/python3 -u -c "import setuptools, tokenize;__file__='/tmp/pip-wg59s87n-build/setup.py';f=getattr(tokenize, 'open', open)(__file__);code=f.read().replace('\r\n', '\n');f.close();exec(compile(code, __file__, 'exec'))" install --record /tmp/pip-o96pq63r-record/install-record.txt --single-version-externally-managed --compile --user --prefix=:
  105. justin Results from command: git pull && pip3 install .
  106. lovetox hm please report the issue to dev.gajim.org with the full build log
  107. justin I will try
  108. justin Is it possible to launch Gajim without building? Because it is Python
  109. marc $ ./launch.sh
  110. lovetox ./launch.py
  111. mimi89999 lovetox: Does the messagewindow branch work?
  112. lovetox hm yes i just updated it
  113. bot bodqhrohro created an issue in _gajim_ <https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/8826>: #8826: <MUC scrollbar looks ugly with OneStepPlat theme>
  114. bot bodqhrohro modified an issue in _gajim_ <https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/8826>: #8826: <MUC scrollbar looks ugly with OneStepPlat theme>
  115. baitisj lovetox, I'm thinking that the issue with the core dump that I was experiencing was fixed by installing the pillow python package.
  116. baitisj I'm running gajim in pdb after installing pillow and have yet to experience a core dump
  117. lovetox what gajim version are you running again?
  118. baitisj lovetox, I'm running 0.98.2+1d835fbfd74f
  119. lovetox we use pillow only to convert webp avatars
  120. lovetox hm so unisntall it and run with pdb
  121. baitisj will do :-)
  122. lovetox im would be very insterested how pillow not beeing there could cause that
  123. baitisj Now I get a lot of: gajim.avatar Pillow convert failed: 522a4b560dc06b3b8ec23a409b50551a7395c031
  124. baitisj let's see if I can't make it crash -- scrolling seemed to help it along earlier
  125. lovetox yeah seems you have some contacts who use conversations
  126. baitisj Yep! Myself, included.
  127. Citizen Zibb hey im trying out msys
  128. Citizen Zibb to test latest commits for windows
  129. lovetox Citizen Zibb, why not just use nightly?
  130. lovetox https://gajim.org/downloads/snap/win/
  131. Citizen Zibb lovetox, glutton for punishment
  132. Citizen Zibb whhys it asking for a password when I try to pull
  133. Citizen Zibb ?
  134. lovetox i have no idea
  135. Citizen Zibb git clone https://dev.gajim.org/USERNAME/gajim.git
  136. lovetox ah maybe your fork is not public
  137. Citizen Zibb https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/tree/master/win
  138. lovetox settings -> generel -> permissions
  139. Citizen Zibb im totally confsed
  140. baitisj lovetox, the run-test failed for my merge request, with no console output: https://dev.gajim.org/baitisj/python-nbxmpp/-/jobs/1990
  141. baitisj any tips?
  142. baitisj i"m trying to determine the test environment to replicate the failure
  143. lovetox no
  144. lovetox your fork was just not allowed to run CI
  145. lovetox i enabled it
  146. baitisj Acknowledged. I'll try re-running the test
  147. lovetox i already did
  148. Citizen Zibb lovetox, am I not allowed to pull from that git repository?
  149. lovetox https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/tree/master/win
  150. lovetox thats not a git repo
  151. baitisj Cool. Seems happy :-)
  152. lovetox thats the main repo https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim.git
  153. Citizen Zibb lovetox, I know I pointed to the page i got the info from
  154. Citizen Zibb git clone https://dev.gajim.org/USERNAME/gajim.git
  155. lovetox did you fork the project?
  156. Citizen Zibb ?
  157. Citizen Zibb no
  158. lovetox you seem to want to execute step 4 of the manual
  159. lovetox you have to execute 1-3 first
  160. lovetox and step 1 is : Fork the master branch on dev.gajim.org
  161. lovetox and if you do that then you get a valid git repo
  162. lovetox with USERNAME beeing the username of your git repo
  163. Citizen Zibb so why not just put git clone https://dev.gajim.org/USERNAME/gajim.git
  164. Citizen Zibb pardon
  165. Citizen Zibb i pasted that incorrectly
  166. Citizen Zibb https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim.git
  167. lovetox cause thats the Development section you are looking
  168. lovetox and you can develope on main repo
  169. Citizen Zibb must be all the fkin beer ive been drinking or something
  170. lovetox but yes, you dont have to fork
  171. lovetox if you just want to build the installer
  172. lovetox i could clarify that
  173. lovetox but to be honest you are probably the first guy, other than me that does this :D
  174. Citizen Zibb I emulate greatness :) lol
  175. Citizen Zibb lovetox, when running ./dev_env.sh, why does mingw blurt out stuff like mingw-w64-i686
  176. Citizen Zibb im building for a 64 bit environment, or the mingw devs are just enjoying being cryptic as fk
  177. lovetox no it creates a 32bit env
  178. Citizen Zibb why?
  179. lovetox because it works, and i had no time to change everything to 64bit
  180. Citizen Zibb so when I am finished with this process, I get a 32bit exec
  181. lovetox mostly because its lot of work, and there is no gain
  182. lovetox yes
  183. Citizen Zibb ./dev_env.sh: line 19: pip3: command not found
  184. lovetox hm thats bad
  185. Citizen Zibb tsk tsk, lovetox are you slipping?
  186. lovetox try deleting the 3 from dev_env.sh
  187. lovetox only pip
  188. Citizen Zibb no pip
  189. Citizen Zibb ./dev_env.sh: line 19: pip: command not found
  190. lovetox thats weird
  191. lovetox do : pacman -S mingw-w64-i686-python3-pip
  192. lovetox look if this installs correctly
  193. lovetox in the msys console
  194. Citizen Zibb warning: mingw-w64-i686-python3-pip-9.0.1-3 is up to date -- reinstalling
  195. Citizen Zibb um im running 64 bit msys
  196. lovetox so if you just type pip3 -V into the console
  197. lovetox what does it say
  198. lovetox ehhhhh
  199. lovetox ...
  200. lovetox Execute C:\msys64\mingw32.exe
  201. Citizen Zibb same issue
  202. Citizen Zibb fixing script
  203. Citizen Zibb restoring pip3
  204. Citizen Zibb seems to be chugging along after deleting a space
  205. Citizen Zibb dunno wtf
  206. bot Seven Upman created an issue in _gajim_ <https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim/issues/8827>: #8827: <"ValueError: Invalid format string" timestamp issue>
  207. Citizen Zibb I would eventually like to see this 64 bit though
  208. Citizen Zibb now its working on python-axolotl
  209. Citizen Zibb cd ..
  210. Citizen Zibb ./launch.py
  211. Citizen Zibb if something should have appeared
  212. Citizen Zibb it hasnt
  213. mimi89999 lovetox: I really like the new tabs design.
  214. lovetox Citizen Zibb, there should be at least some output
  215. Citizen Zibb not a damn thing
  216. lovetox so still running?
  217. Citizen Zibb when I do ./launch.py I see a blank line and thats it
  218. lovetox ah
  219. Citizen Zibb so im trying build.sh
  220. lovetox no
  221. lovetox wait
  222. Citizen Zibb oh
  223. lovetox that needs 15 minutes
  224. Citizen Zibb on a kabylake?
  225. lovetox do python3 launch.py
  226. Citizen Zibb $ python3 launch.py
  227. lovetox hm try something different
  228. lovetox go into the regular windows command console
  229. lovetox and do
  230. lovetox C:\msys64\mingw32\bin\python3.6.exe launch.py
  231. Citizen Zibb is powershell ok?
  232. lovetox i guess
  233. Citizen Zibb C:\msys64\mingw32\bin\python3.6.exe: can't open file 'launch.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
  234. lovetox ah sorry, you have to first cd into the gajim dir
  235. Citizen Zibb C:\msys64\mingw32\bin\python3.6.exe launch.py 'git' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
  236. Citizen Zibb is it pebkac?
  237. lovetox does it not start?
  238. Citizen Zibb no
  239. lovetox very weird, i have a new windows machine soon
  240. lovetox then i can test this
  241. Citizen Zibb hold on a sec
  242. Citizen Zibb 0.98.2+b8fd8c8a3fbd
  243. Citizen Zibb A GTK+ XMPP client GTK+ Version: 3.22.26 PyGObject Version: 3.26.1 python-nbxmpp Version: 0.6.2
  244. Citizen Zibb looks like it worked after all
  245. lovetox but you had to install git ?
  246. Citizen Zibb nope
  247. Citizen Zibb it just hung a bit then started
  248. Citizen Zibb totally confused
  249. Citizen Zibb but heres some stuff
  250. lovetox hm yeah i have this problem also with msys lately
  251. lovetox thats why i dont start from msys console
  252. Citizen Zibb $ ./launch.py 12/30/2017 18:09:22 (W) gajim.plugin_system: Plugin emoticons_pack not loaded, plugin incompatible with current version of gajim: 0.98.2 > 0.16.9 12/30/2017 18:09:22 (W) gajim.plugin_system: Plugin url_shortener not loaded, plugin incompatible with current version of gajim: 0.98.2 > 0.16.9 12/30/2017 18:10:11 (E) gajim.gtkgui_helpers: Icon not found: gtk-dialog-warning 12/30/2017 18:10:13 (W) gajim.avatar: Pillow convert failed: 1c5d03c0fb1a62a41ee04de0722a894fd78b2aed
  253. lovetox ups you had gajim installed?
  254. lovetox then you just upgraded everything, this uses the same appdata path as the install version
  255. Citizen Zibb I thought it wouldnt
  256. Citizen Zibb but it worked anyhow
  257. lovetox it does, you should probably start with -c PATH arg
  258. lovetox and set a path where you want your appdata stuff
  259. Citizen Zibb ill just remove the other one
  260. lovetox so its separated
  261. lovetox then you lose all your logs omemo kes
  262. lovetox keys etc
  263. Citizen Zibb did not realize that would be a problem
  264. Citizen Zibb no worries
  265. lovetox thats why i like running the portable version :)
  266. Citizen Zibb I was thinking about it
  267. Citizen Zibb but said hell, lets do it this way
  268. Citizen Zibb it has no spell checker, no upnp-igd bonjour, commandline, audio or video
  269. lovetox the build version has spellchecker
  270. lovetox bonjour is not yet ported to python3
  271. lovetox and audio/video doesnt work
  272. lovetox mimi89999, its just the first draft
  273. lovetox did you encounter any tracebacks?
  274. Citizen Zibb lovetox, me?
  275. lovetox no mimi89999
  276. Citizen Zibb ah
  277. Citizen Zibb mine has no gspell
  278. Citizen Zibb but i dont need it
  279. Citizen Zibb what do install to get bonjour on here
  280. lovetox with msys2 no idea to be honest
  281. lovetox the service can be installed with itunes
  282. lovetox and the python bonjour package is not available for python3
  283. lovetox we try to switch to a different package
  284. lovetox but this is all not working right now
  285. mimi89999 lovetox: No
  286. baitisj why is it that no code ever segfaults when you run it in the debugger :/
  287. baitisj I should just run everything in debuggers
  288. baitisj FreeBSD Debugger Version
  289. debacle Is anybody using the Debian package of Gajim (ideally 1.0.0~alpha2) on Plasma/KDE? There is a bug report, but I can't/want to test it, because I'm not on KDE. If anybody could tell me, if the bug still exists, that would be great. Thanks! The bug report is https://bugs.debian.org/850803
