Gajim - 2017-10-25

  1. lsg How to make Gajim always show ALL received notifications, regardless of the status of the tab?
  2. lovetox show where?
  3. lsg >show where? system notifications.
  4. lsg Now only the first unread message comes.
  5. lovetox with gajim 0.16.8?
  6. lsg lovetox, +
  7. lsg Fedora 26, KDE.
  8. lovetox the first message from a contact
  9. lovetox are notifications automatically dismissed on your system?
  10. lsg lovetox, no. The first unread message. I did not try to deal with non-contacts.
  11. lovetox after a certain time?
  12. lovetox on gnome notifications are not dismissed, if we should for every message a notification you would have to dismiss each notification
  13. lovetox what we want to do is, to show you one notification per contact, so that you know there are new messages
  14. lovetox and not 10 notification for 10 messages
  15. lsg lovetox, why not 10 notification for 10 messages?
  16. lovetox because then you have to click 10 times dismiss
  17. lovetox i dont know how other apps handle this, but if you start your mail client
  18. lovetox and it downloads 100 emails
  19. lovetox you get 100 notifications?
  20. lovetox and click 100 times, dismiss
  21. lovetox or how does that work
  22. lsg lovetox, But mail is not a fast message.
  23. lovetox what is the difference?
  24. lovetox maybe you should describe whats the problem
  25. lovetox you see "Message from XY"
  26. lovetox then you click and the chat opens and you see all messages
  27. lovetox or do you want to read all messages already inside the notification area without opening the chat?
  28. lsg lovetox, I want to not open the chat, i want see new notifications.
  29. lsg I do not send messages every second, something can be missed, but something not.
  30. lovetox how can something be missed?
  31. lsg In short, you can skip important notifications.
  32. lovetox are you saying you dont get a notification in some situations?
  33. lsg lovetox, сhecked, I get.
  34. lsg lovetox, Previously, the tray flashed with new notifications, this is not present?
  35. lovetox lets leave the tray out of this for a moment
  36. lsg >are you saying you dont get a notification in some situations? It was just not obvious to me that they were working this way, it seemed that this was a mistake. Now everything became clear.
  37. lsg lovetox, sound notifications are broken? or I have problems with the system.
  38. lovetox you get no sound at all for no notification?
  39. lsg lovetox, +
  40. lovetox what KDE version are you using, i would have to test this
  41. lovetox there is in preference window, sound options
  42. lovetox where you can choose notification sounds
  43. lsg Plasma 5.10.5
  44. lovetox k i install it and test it
  45. mimi89999 lsg: How foes Gajim look on Plasma?
  46. lsg lovetox, there is also no sound. :)
  47. rom1dep WFM on KDE
  48. rom1dep mimi89999: like a Gtk app
  49. SaltyBones hm...nobody here is using i3, right?
  50. zuglufttier SaltyBones, only dwm if that helps...
  51. SaltyBones zuglufttier, which version are you running?
  52. zuglufttier dwm? 6.1, I think, I compile from source from time to time. Gajim is from master.
  53. SaltyBones hm...
  54. SaltyBones so what does it look like when you go to account settings?
  55. SaltyBones because I get pretty horrible shit :)
  56. zuglufttier Looking nice for me, unless you mean by horrible shit the new gtk3 ui.
  57. zuglufttier Screenshot?
  58. SaltyBones I have been using gnome for so long I have to figure out how to take one first.
  59. zuglufttier scrot, works on a terminal.
  60. zuglufttier Install it, then: scrot -d 3 -c -u It will take then a screenshot in 3 seconds of the window which has the current focus.
  61. SaltyBones https://jabber.a-oben.org:5444/upload/5a456f5091ca43811de245fda4b8638d99b28620/mL9U9qjBNEjB6ubE8johhOJe1MTACgbpWBQObMSN/accounts.png
  62. SaltyBones so first I get this :)
  63. SaltyBones where you have to click on things that dont look clickable at all
  64. SaltyBones and then you have to do it again
  65. SaltyBones and you get
  66. SaltyBones https://jabber.a-oben.org:5444/upload/5a456f5091ca43811de245fda4b8638d99b28620/79fGb0rkr3A62depHmO7tdKmBDYkbeQdZR2EBNur/accounts2.png
  67. SaltyBones which doesnt have an obvious window close button
  68. SaltyBones zuglufttier, maybe all just WIP stuff
  69. SaltyBones haven't looked at that menu in a while
  70. SaltyBones just though it might be i3 madness
  71. zuglufttier No, it's gtk3 madness...
  72. zuglufttier These look exactly the same for me. I sometimes also don't have close buttons. Sometimes you can use ESC and for those other time I use the shortcut in dwm for closing, not killing the application, a window.
  73. zuglufttier Well, just had a look: It actually is the shortcut to kill an application but I guess it's the aquivalent to ALT+F4 on Windows.
  74. zuglufttier I think, that Gnome or other desktop environments will add a close button on their own. This behaviour changed in gtk3.
  75. zuglufttier i3 should have a shortcut for that, too ;)
  76. SaltyBones yeah, that s what I m using
  77. SaltyBones still this is impressively shitty ;)
  78. zuglufttier I agree but it's all WIP in gajim. Try other gtk3 applications and have a look at that mess :D
  79. SaltyBones :)
  80. zuglufttier It's my impression that developers can do more with gtk3 but also have to think a bit more to make it work everywhere ;)
  81. lovetox SaltyBones, that the things dont look clickable is a theming problem as it seems
  82. lovetox in your theme listbox items have the same background as a window
  83. lovetox and that you dont have a X in the right top corner is your window manager probelm
  84. lovetox i dont tell the window to hide the close button
  85. lovetox i dont get why it would draw the close button for the account window, but not for the login window
  86. lovetox i create them exactly the same, the only reason i can think of is, that the login window is a child to the account window so your window manager maybe treats it differently
  87. zuglufttier lovetox, gajim isn't the only application with this behaviour so don't worry about this ;)
  88. zuglufttier It's a behaviour of gtk3.
  89. zuglufttier Well, and more a problem of those minimal window managers...
  90. lovetox its maybe a bit to minimal ^^
  91. lovetox but i agree besides the problem with the close button, doesnt look good with this theme
  92. lovetox the problem is i can only develope against the standard adwaita theme
  93. lovetox otherwise i go crazy
  94. lovetox and desktop envs have to know that devs do that, and if the want to modify the standard theme to bring there own touch to gtk, then they should make sure that apps developed against standard theme adwaita also look good on their theme
  95. lovetox and desktop envs have to know that devs do that, and if they want to modify the standard theme to bring theire own touch to gtk, then they should make sure that apps developed against standard theme adwaita also look good on their theme
  96. lovetox and desktop envs have to know that devs do that, and if they want to modify the standard theme to bring their own touch to gtk, then they should make sure that apps developed against standard theme adwaita also look good on their theme
  97. SaltyBones yeah unfortunately this is not even a desktop env
  98. SaltyBones which makes me wonder why the theme is so shitty
  99. SaltyBones it should be the default
  100. lovetox your screenshot looks like unity theme for ubuntu
  101. bot Philipp Hörist pushed 1 commit to branch _refs/heads/master_ of _gajim-plugins_ <https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins>: *5f054bec* <https://dev.gajim.org/gajim/gajim-plugins/commit/5f054bec89fa9f69985552b302c24fa68b183bcb> [otr] Add Warning to manifest.ini
  102. cippaciong SaltyBones: generally speaking, windows don't have close buttons on i3 since the poin of using i3 is to use keyboard shortcuts
  103. SaltyBones lovetox, how the hell did they ship a theme that is so shitty?
  104. SaltyBones A theme so shitty should not even exist. :p
  105. lovetox ubuntu is switching to gnome fully anyway now, but again with there own theme
  106. SaltyBones cippaciong, I'm fine with windows not having close buttons but when some do and some don't it's confusing.
  107. lovetox i hope they do a better job
  108. cippaciong SaltyBones: usually they don't, the only exceptions in my experience a recentish updates of Gnome apps
  109. cippaciong But I would say that it's a Gnome problem rather than gtk3 in general
  110. lovetox rom1dep, incoming with something about QT in 3..2..1..
  111. rom1dep 0
  112. rom1dep Gnome/Gtk is so positively good that I don't even have to be here for people to spread their love of it
  113. concerto > Gnome/Gtk is so positively good that I don't even have to be here for people to spread their love of it Sarcasm?
  114. concerto (I thought everyone hated GNOME/GTK)
  115. rom1dep concerto: yes sarcasm. I don't think Gtk is a good toolkit, and I'm apparently not the only one bored of these gnomish layouts nonsense. But despite what lovetox may think, I don't care enough to evangelize or troll on the matter (not today at least)
  116. zuglufttier Adwaita theme won't help in this case, too...
  117. lovetox in the case with the close button?
  118. lovetox yes its entirely a window manager thing
  119. lovetox though i see this change too in latest builds
  120. lovetox i think they changed something in gtk
  121. lovetox it seems i cant force that gtk decorates the windows
  122. lovetox if i dont place gtk elements in the window header, its handled by the system
  123. lovetox this leads to this result
  124. lovetox https://share.hoerist.com/philipp/sleP0CQqYRWDnFHh/Unbenannt.PNG
  125. lovetox see the difference in window decoration..
  126. lovetox thoug windows knows that it should draw a close button, it seems your window manager doesnt
  127. cippaciong lovetox, I wanted to check the buttons on my installation but I can't find the window you are showing in your screenshots
  128. lovetox the accounts window
  129. lovetox then login
  130. lovetox it says in the window title
  131. lovetox you dont have to check
  132. lovetox i confirmed that this is intended by gtk
  133. cippaciong :/
  134. lovetox default is : let the system handle decoration
  135. lovetox except if we put widgets into the header then it cant, so gtk does it
  136. lovetox you can switch to pure GTK, with setting env var GTK_CSD=1
  137. cippaciong 👍
  138. cippaciong Thanks
  139. lovetox i probably add a commandline flag for that at one point
  140. zuglufttier > you can switch to pure GTK, with setting env var GTK_CSD=1 I must remind myself to try that tomorrow....
