Gajim - 2017-03-08

  1. Ge0rG Why is the roster group for contacts who are not in a group called "General"?
  2. lovetox Ge0rG how do you call it?
  3. lovetox "not in group" seems ugly
  4. lovetox not everybody has 300 contacts and needs groups
  5. lovetox Gajim also misses the functionality to not show groups at all
  6. lovetox thats why there is a need to put them into a group, even if its not a real group
  7. Ge0rG lovetox: I'm calling them "General" as well, but this has been in the app since 2009 and I am currently questioning the whole glossary anyway.
  8. Ge0rG lovetox: https://wiki.xmpp.org/web/Usability/Glossary
  9. Megver83 hi everybody, I just have a simple question, how do I enable MAM support?
  10. lovetox Megver83, where? on 1:1 conversations?
  11. lovetox it should be enabled by default if your server supports it
  12. Megver83 lovetox: On gajim, of course. I didn't know that should be by default. A friend has it and had to enble it
  13. lovetox i asked because gajim doesnt support mam for mucs
  14. lovetox only for single conversations
  15. Megver83 lovetox: ok, but I want MAM, which is no the same as MUC
  16. lovetox where did i say its the same?
  17. Megver83 lovetox: you're right, my mistake.
  18. lovetox you can look if under Accounts -> General
  19. lovetox there is a checkbox "sync history with server"
  20. lovetox or something like that
  21. lovetox see if its checked
  22. Megver83 lovetox: ok
  23. lovetox and are you sure your server supports MAMß
  24. lovetox ?
  25. zak I do know, that jabber.ccc.de does support MAM for some time, but it is deactivated at first. In Conversations I need to check the account details, click "Archivierungseinstellungen" and activate it.
  26. Megver83 well, my server is diasp.org, but my chatroom is in movim.eu
  27. Megver83 I do not know on whom depends
  28. lovetox gajim dont support MAM for chatrooms
  29. lovetox thats what i tried to tell you before
  30. Megver83 ok :(
  31. lovetox only for single chat
  32. SaltyBones is it somehow possible to use a font with gajim where emojis are more readable?
  33. Link Mauve SaltyBones, you can use any font you want, yeah.
  34. SaltyBones sets font to comic sans.
  35. SaltyBones Okay, I guess some part of my question was: Is there a font with nicely readable emojis?
  36. SaltyBones And some part: Can a font have colored emojis?
  37. SaltyBones <3
  38. Link Mauve I personally use noto-fonts.
  39. Link Mauve noto-fonts-emoji on ArchLinux.
  40. Link Mauve As for coloured, I have no idea, I don’t use that.
  41. SaltyBones let s see if I can get that on derpuntu
  42. SaltyBones hm...
  43. SaltyBones not working too well xD
  44. SaltyBones Link Mauve, are you sure you are using this?
  45. Link Mauve I am not using Gajim, but yes I am using this font in every program I use.
  46. SaltyBones https://jabber.a-oben.org:5444/upload/5a456f5091ca43811de245fda4b8638d99b28620/XxdAr6okjv1V5pgIHyRRfaqsEU2UJ1P59zsqOUs5/Screenshot_from_2017-03-08_17-47-18.png
  47. SaltyBones well...might be a gajim problem ;)
  48. Link Mauve Your certificate is invalid, you should obtain one from e.g. Let’s Encrypt.
  49. SaltyBones i know
  50. Link Mauve SaltyBones, you haven’t sent any emoji here, right?
  51. SaltyBones no but look at the timestamp
  52. Link Mauve Configure your fontconfig properly? :x
  53. SaltyBones How do I do that? :)
  54. Link Mauve Read its documentation, I guess.
  55. SaltyBones that sounds like an awful lot of work
  56. Link Mauve I just tested, it renders correctly here.
  57. SaltyBones shit
  58. Ge0rG https://github.com/googlei18n/noto-emoji/issues/36 reads like an odyssey indeed
  59. SaltyBones *barf*
  60. SaltyBones Link Mauve, what are you using?
  61. Link Mauve SaltyBones, poezio.
  62. SaltyBones ah yeah :)
  63. SaltyBones i tried that
  64. SaltyBones couldnt figure out how to connect to a server x)
  65. Ge0rG just wondered. What if one would render emoji-only messages in 10x the font size.
  66. SaltyBones why would you do that?
  67. Ge0rG SaltyBones: cheap man's stickers.
  68. SaltyBones i don't understand what stickers are
  69. SaltyBones how are the different from sending images?
  70. Link Mauve SaltyBones, /set jid you@your-server
  71. Ge0rG SaltyBones: they are easily accessible
  72. Link Mauve But by default you will be connected to an anonymous server so you don’t have to care about it.
  73. Link Mauve Unlike most clients, you can start using poezio right away, without any need for configuration, account creation or anything.
  74. Link Mauve It’s truly the best onboarding story possible.
  75. Ge0rG except if you want to configure an account, where it becomes hard :>
  76. Link Mauve Ge0rG, /set jid <jid> doesn’t sound that hard.
  77. SaltyBones Link Mauve, except of course after connecting it s utterly useless
  78. SaltyBones even /help doesnt tell you anything interesting
  79. Link Mauve But it’s targetted to people who know to read a configuration file.
  80. Link Mauve SaltyBones, utterly useless?
  81. SaltyBones :)
  82. SaltyBones sorry, didn't mean to be rude
  83. SaltyBones I know how to read a config file but I usually don't want to. :)
  84. mathieui Link Mauve, /help is useless for onboarding, tbh
  85. Link Mauve SaltyBones, the original idea was to emulate the UX of IRC clients, so you wouldn’t have to do anything and start joining rooms right away.
  86. Link Mauve mathieui, indeed.
  87. Ge0rG it could at least print a banner
  88. SaltyBones it s fine, nevermind
  89. SaltyBones i m sure it s the best terminal client out there
  90. mathieui I still haven’t tried profanity seriously
  91. SaltyBones I would only consider a terminal client if it had a proper gui.
  92. SaltyBones I just don't want to learn a bunch of commands.
  93. mathieui like finch?
  94. SaltyBones havent tried it
  95. mathieui it’s a terminal client with a "proper gui"
  96. mathieui it’s also the worst thing I have ever seen
  97. SaltyBones :D
  98. Ge0rG profanity also is really hard to onboard.
  99. SaltyBones so where is this config file that i have to edit?
  100. SaltyBones and how do i join the poezio muc with this? :p
  101. Link Mauve SaltyBones, /join poezio@muc.poez.io
  102. mathieui SaltyBones, it’s the first thing you have when you run poezio for the first time
  103. Link Mauve It’s displayed on the first screen, IIRC.
  104. SaltyBones yeah but it only does it once
  105. SaltyBones and i started it the first time weeks ago
  106. Ge0rG SaltyBones: I actually liked that idea enough to try it out: https://xmpp.pix-art.de/imagehost/display/file/2017-03-08_18-44-09_16k0z3vyj7ez.jpg
  107. potito hi people
  108. potito (D)
  109. potito people in the world?
  110. SaltyBones <3
  111. mimi89999 potito: Very cool avatar.
  112. potito also yours is fantastic+
  113. mimi89999 potito: Generated with Cat Avatar Generator (Generate cat avatars) - https://f-droid.org/app/com.agateau.catgenerator
  114. SaltyBones mimi89999, I don't see your avatar with gajim :(
  115. Link Mauve Oh indeed, both of yours are cute. ^^
  116. Link Mauve I just noticed that ran has a Ran avatar. <3
  117. mimi89999 SaltyBones: It was published with Conversations, so of course it is in the webp format that *no other client can show*. Eh... 😐
  118. SaltyBones webp....never even heard of that
  119. Link Mauve mimi89999, also that avatar method is incompatible with semi-anonymous rooms like this one.
  120. mimi89999 Also...
  121. mimi89999 https://lebihan.pl/xmpp-upload/index.php/b4f437d2-7f9f-45d2-a4f3-94acfcee42a7/2wD33TiXSZWo2oWIbe1nEw.png
  122. Link Mauve mimi89999, your Content-Type is still wrong. /o\
  123. mimi89999 Still haven fixed http upload external..
  124. ran > I just noticed that ran has a Ran avatar. <3 nyan!
  125. Link Mauve ran, shouldn’t you do “kon!” instead? :3
  126. ran Link Mauve: I'm a very special kitsune!
